THE NEW GLOBAL SLAVERY INDEX HAS BEEN RELEASED

Dear Víctor,

The new 2016 Global Slavery Index has been released, and it estimates a staggering 45.8 million people are in situations of modern slavery around the world. That’s more people than live in the cities of London, New York, Seoul and Delhi combined!

The problem isn’t necessarily getting worse, we’re just getting more detailed information than we’ve ever had, thanks in part to you!

The growth and momentum of the global anti-slavery movement – of which the Walk Free community is a driving force, has resulted in greater collaboration from NGOs and governments, and unprecedented access to new sources of data alongside extensive surveys. Meaning we now have a more detailed picture of modern slavery than has ever existed.

But what can you do, now the heart-breaking picture is clearer than ever? For a start, you can help bring it into focus, direct the world’s attention to the problem, and recruit more resources to fight it.

WE NEED YOUR VOICE TO AMPLIFY THE MESSAGE THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA*:
  1. Visit this page to join our Thunderclap campaign.
  2. Volunteer your social accounts to help make some noise.
  3. On June 6, the Thunderclap will go live, telling the world "45.8 Million are trapped in #ModernSlavery. Will you join the number fighting it?"
Yes, the problem is even larger than previously known. But the willingness to work together which made this edition of the Global Slavery Index possible, sends a clear message.

The scale of modern slavery is only exceeded by our desire to end it.

In solidarity,

Joanna & the Walk Free team

*Not on social media? No problem! You can still play just as important a role. Pledge to talk to three of your friends, family or colleagues about the number of people trapped in modern slavery – and how they can help by joining you as part of WalkFree.org.
